Amy Dowden
We are thrilled to introduce our first ever Primrose Centre Patron, Amy Dowden MBE.
Amy is best known as professional dancer on the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.
In May 2023, Amy’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer. She underwent a single mastectomy, leaving her requiring chemotherapy treatment. In August, she contracted sepsis after finishing her first round of chemotherapy. In November 2025, on medical advice, Amy underwent a second mastectomy as a preventative measure due to family history.
Amy’s breast cancer journey has been openly shared with the public, with her BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer & Me being shortlisted for a BAFTA Cymru. She has quickly become an inspiration and role model for others with breast cancer – shining her bright light on the highs and lows of treatment. Amy continues to raise awareness about the disease and encourage early detection to help save lives.
We are absolutely thrilled Amy was able to visit us in person to unveil The Amy Dowden Room, which will be used for hand and nail treatments, lymphatic drainage, and support groups. As a Patron of our charity, she will help us to raise awareness of our work and champion our mission, as well as bringing an awareness of breast cancer to the wider community.
